My son received a letter from The Government of Canada inviting him to apply for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP); while I explained the program to him, I realized that many of you may have similar questions.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) was introduced by the federal government to help make dental care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents. The program is being rolled out in phases and is intended for individuals who do not have access to private dental insurance and whose household income is below $90,000 per year.
Key Details:
- Eligibility: Canadian residents with a household income under $90,000 who do not have access to private dental insurance. You and your spouse/common-law-partner must have filed your tax returns. You must also be a Canadian resident for tax purposes. Other qualifications may be required if you have dental coverage through a provincial, territorial or federal government program.
- Coverage: The CDCP covers a range of preventive, diagnostic, and restorative dental services, such as cleanings, X-rays, fillings, and other basic dental care needs.
- Application: The application process is being managed by Health Canada, and those who qualify may receive information by mail with instructions on how to apply. You can also check your eligibility or apply online through the Government of Canada website.
- Phased Implementation: The program is being introduced gradually, focusing first on seniors, children under 18, and people with disabilities. Other eligible groups are being invited to apply as the program expands.
Unfortunately, my son does not qualify as he is still covered under my medical plan. However, if you or someone in your household meets the eligibility criteria, I encourage you to review the details on the Government of Canada’s Dental Care webpage and consider applying.
Should you have questions about how this program may benefit your specific situation or how it fits into your overall financial plan, please feel free to reach out.
Have a great Long Weekend!
