Are you Ready to say goodbye to your job?
As the pandemic begins to slow and we start to return to normal, have you found yourself re-evaluating your employment situation? if you have, you are not alone. Many people are questioning themselves if returning to the office and the 9 – 5 work week is really what they want. If this sounds like you, here are some things to consider:
What this summer will tell us about employers
Companies are starting to figure out how to operate their business post pandemic, including what policies to maintain and how to manage their employees’ work schedules. Some companies may offer various options. Do you want to go back full time? Work remotely? Go down to a shortened work week? It is still vague whether companies will make these options long-term; something to consider when deciding whether to stay or go.
Want to quit your job right now?
Why are you wanting to quit so quickly? Are you thinking your company will not let you work part-time or continue to work remotely? Before you make the decision to leave, make sure you fully understand your company’s plans on returning to the office.
Should I resign before or after returning to the office?
I suggest you go back for at least a couple of weeks. Think of it as a test, you may be happy to be back at the office working along side your co-workers.
How should I resign during the pandemic?
You may be thinking of simply using an electronic method, but it has been shown that companies respond negatively to a resignation over email. In person or over Zoom are your only options.
What should I say to my boss?
When talking to your boss let them know that you tried returning to the office, but it just is not working for you. Your reasons should be truthful. Give precise reasons, like you’re continuing your education, or the commute is just too much, or your family must come first.
Why it’s important to be careful when resigning?
You want to leave the company and your supervisor on a positive note, in a year you may find you miss your job and want to return, or you may need a reference from them in the future.
Have a great week,
Tracey
