Over the last 100 years, we as humans have advanced immensely with today’s technology. Our overall goal was to make our daily lives easier and in many ways it has. But with the new and advancing AI technology, some of us are questioning whether it is too advanced or in some cases dangerous. The Fidelity Connects webcast “The Upside – AI and Machine Learning Trends” touches on some of these issues.

Sarah Hoffman, Vice President, of AI and Machine Learning Research, believes that now that AI is gaining traction within companies and individuals around the world some recurring questions are being asked. For one, how safe is our data when using this software?

In the beginning stages of AI, there was a huge issue with data protection. AI would make up or “hallucinate” answers to questions and leak companies’/individuals’ data to learn more about us and to generate better answers to our questions. According to Sarah Hoffman, this issue has almost disappeared. Contrary to many beliefs AI’s data collection is not any different than it has been in the last decade. Many of the search engines we use daily continuously collect data from us to become a better resource for us.

As AI improves and becomes safer for its users, the higher the demand grows. There’s currently a universal fear of “falling behind” because everyone is incorporating AI into their businesses. Because of this, there is a huge shortage of this hardware which is forcing some companies to opt out of using the most advanced AI and instead use an older version.

Open Source is a newly introduced data protection software that is in high demand within companies. This data protection software will not share your data with the public, making it more costly. For Open Source to work, you would need someone working full-time to manage the company’s data. Though this could be beneficial to certain companies it would also add a lot more work that some businesses can’t afford.

We are all trying to learn and understand this new AI technology as it incorporates itself into our daily lives. It is good to continue to keep yourself informed of what is to come, and what is already here.

Fun fact, we edited this blog post with AI – it was entertaining and easy to do!

Have a great weekend,
